Why are Ecco Stoves different and how do they work?

They are masonry heaters, not regular stoves, and are designed to heat through the whole house – think of them as “wood fired storage heaters”. Prices must be compared with whole house heating systems, not other woodburning stoves. They are installed in the same way as regular woodburners.

  • Ecco Stoves have been produced since 2010 and are UK designed, manufactured and finished.
  • All Ecco Stoves come with a ten year guarantee
  • Lots of testimonials on website for other users experiences (we can provide details of other customers (only offer this if asked)).
  • Unique to Ecco Stove – we offer a Guaranteed Heat Plan that gives expected temperature bands around your home (more info later)
  • Showroom and home visits available to share the experience of the Ecco Stoves yourself.
  • Material stove is made from:

Regular woodburners are cast iron, produce a rush of heat that is quickly dispersed, loses energy quickly and doesn’t travel that far. Ecco Stoves are almost entirely made from a Silicon Carbide mix (except the doors, ashpans and grates). Silicon Carbide acts as a heat sponge and releases the heat at a slow rate, low energy heatwave that can travel a lot further (video showing smokeflow and heat movement:

    Area heated:

Regular woodburners (over)heat the room they are in with an aggressive heat that doesn’t travel that far (normally just the room they are in.). Ecco Stoves can heat a much larger area (up to 15 rooms) providing the doors are open between the stove and the areas you want heated – simply close the door to the areas you don’t want to heat.

    Heat retention:

Most woodburners will be cold within an hour to an hour and a half after the fire has gone out – Ecco Stoves retain heat for up to 12 hours after the fire has gone out. The unique series of contraflow channels (tri baffle in the E580) ensure as much of the heat from the fire is absorbed by the body of the stove as possible.

    Mass of the stove:

Regular woodburners weigh around 120 kgs – Ecco Stoves start at 270kg for the smallest model (E580) with the most popular model (E678) being 550kg.

    Stove and exhaust temperatures:

Regular woodburners have a surface temp of around 450C with flue gas temps of between 350c and 550C. Ecco Stoves have a surface temp of between 150 – 200C with flue gas temps around 140C on E678 and 180c – 240C on our E580, making them safer, especially for thatched properties as embers and sparks will be captured within the flue channels (all models apart from E580 – E580 will reduce the embers and sparks with its tri-baffle system).
